What is Post-Stroke and Post-Heart Attack Rehab?

A large number of people who suffer a stroke or heart attack survive and later require rehabilitation. Although rehabilitation is not a cure for any of the resulting conditions of a stroke or heart attack, it is a form of treatment that helps individuals achieve a better lifestyle. Rehabilitation consists of exercise as well as education. Survivors of a stroke or heart attack suffer from various types of disabilities that can be managed and controlled through therapy and other rehabilitation activities.

Post-stroke rehabilitation involves exercises that help individuals regain any skills lost due to brain damage. These exercises are designed to improve mobility and coordination. Survivors are also taught ways to perform daily tasks such as bathing and dressing in order to prevent future disabilities. Physical therapy and speech therapy are integral components of rehabilitation. A regularized schedule of activities and social interaction can help improve the quality of life for stroke survivors.

Rehabilitation Services Offered

Post-heart attack rehabilitation involves exercises and nutritional counseling that teach survivors the necessary lifestyle changes that aim to prevent or reduce heart-related problems. Rehabilitation for heart attack survivors also consists of emotional support and education. The goal is for each individual to regain his or her strength and to prevent the risk of heart problems developing in the long-run.

The rehabilitation services are monitored and directed by a qualified staff. The physical activities are repetitive in order to help restore self-care for the elderly, adults with disabilities and Veterans who have suffered from a stroke or heart attack. We have a multidisciplinary team of professionals, therapists, dieticians and nurses to administer the program. Oxnard Family circle offers social services and counseling services that provide emotional support and social interaction.
The emotional aftermath of a heart attack and stroke and the responsibility of caring for a loved one are difficult. Support and reassurance services are offered for family members who are coping with the challenges. We also offer transportation services to and from the adult day health care center.
